Greenland's Hydropower Potential: A 10,000 EH/s Bitcoin Mining Hub?
Discussions about the United States potentially purchasing Greenland have resurfaced, prompting interest from Bitcoin miners. The focus is on Greenland's industrial power planning, particularly its hydropower capacity. The government plans a public tender in 2026 for two major hydropower sites, Tasersiaq and Tarsartuup Tasersua, which could produce over 9,500 gigawatt-hours annually. Existing hydropower capacity is around 91.3 megawatts, with electricity prices at DKK 1.81 per kilowatt-hour. Expansion plans, such as the Buksefjord project, aim to increase capacity from 45 megawatts to 121 megawatts by 2032. The potential of the two-site tender could lead to a hashrate ceiling of 44.8β65.7 EH/s, positioning Greenland as a significant player in Bitcoin mining.
