Bitcoin's "Absorption Signal": Institutional Demand Hints at Supply Shock
Despite Bitcoin's volatile start to 2026, with price fluctuations around $90,000, underlying data suggests a bullish outlook. Institutional demand, particularly from US spot Bitcoin ETFs and companies like Strategy, has absorbed more than the new Bitcoin supply entering circulation. As of January 7, US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net inflows of 5,150 BTC, while Strategy increased its holdings by 1,283 BTC, totaling 673,783 BTC. This combined institutional absorption of roughly 6,433 BTC outpaced the estimated 3,137.5 BTC mined during the same period. Public companies collectively hold over 1 million BTC, indicating a long-term holding strategy that further constrains supply.
